A Warm Welcome

Welcome to Lux Mundi!
In all the years that Hosanna Evangelical Free Church in Ipoh has been in existence, there has always been talk about putting us on the Internet and the farthest we had gone in recent times was to make sure people could find their way motoring to our humble little church. And hence we propped up Google Maps to help us out. And it worked. Just that little add-on helped a few to find their tracks successfully. We had enquiries from other parts of the world as a result. We also had a Dutch student who frequented our church some years back because of Google Maps.
We knew the effectiveness of the Internet. No one needed to tell us the power of reaching others and when one is involved in online outreach, there is no comparison. The problem with us at Hosanna is that we've also been a church with very significant human resource issues.
So welcome to Lux Mundi indeed. We are Hosanna EFC (a common way to abbreviate a lengthy denominational identifier). We are aware there is another 'Hosanna EFC' in Canada; so we'd prefer to be known as the Malaysian version ! :)
At any rate we're by no means not a new church. Hosanna EFC has been around for more than 30 years. Founded by American missionaries from EFC America, we're been soldiering along contrary to what many thought we had given up the ghost. We have an interesting history, which I will one day write about and post it, possibly complete with pictures of our past but for now, allow us to introduce this blog.
After years of consternation and false starts, we hope this one attempt will endure the test of time. It is a big thing for our small church, numbering no more than twenty in full membership only. Notwithstanding the lack of human resources to spread out the work that is needed to be done, this blog is a significant milestone for us. We hope you will keep visiting our blog for new articles.
The purpose of having a blog isn't a "me-too" exercise. We believe that even for a small church like ours, we can do our little part in reaching out to others. The purpose of being Christian is to commit to the divine commission, to spread the Word and to share God's Promise of Salvation.
Our blog takes the same name from our church's Sunday weekly magazine. Called Lux Mundi to mean "Light of the World," we hope to be an inspiration to the people of the world, particularly for those who are searching for some meaningful reason to want to know God. God's love for all is free but some of us might have been finding it difficult to know where to begin looking. With Lux Mundi, we are investing a modest effort in doing our part.
The articles in Lux Mundi are essentially from writers at Hosanna EFC as well as those who may have given their sermons at our church. Being a small church, we have various pastors and elders from other EFC churches in Malaysia who come and share their messages with us. Some of these messages may find their way to this blog. Very soon too we will be posting our recent but new Lux Mundi Sunday weeklies in PDF format so you can download and read. In the near future - once we figure out the labyrinthine settings, we would like to offer an online subscription service so that our Sunday weeklies can reach your Inbox whenever new ones are available.
In time too we hope that we can provide more useful and meaningful information for those who are looking for the Truth, for those who wish to know more about our church and for those who simply enjoy reading the kinds of articles we put up freely here.
We dearly hope you will enjoy our blog but advance apologies if our efforts look a little clumsy for now. We'll need some precious time to learn how to steer this beast called Blogspot (or is it Blogger!?).
And if you're around our stick of the woods, drop in and share a nice cup of coffee (or tea) with us.
Thanks and God bless.
From the good people of Hosanna Evangelical Free Church
