As the Trials Get Worse, Our Faith Grows Stronger (Part 3 of 3, Final)

As the Trials Get Worse, Our Faith Grows Stronger (Part 3 of 3, Final)
A four-month testimony of events that reveal the Hand of God

Part two last week was about my wife contracting dengue fever and needing to be hospitalised, which left the care of our 17-month-old twins in my sole car. And then once she was discharged, it was my turn to be bedridden for a week, floored by a seemingly harmless flu but made far worse by a stomach infection.

This week, our final part takes us to the rest of April and then a little beyond where we also look into how God uses adversities to teach us invaluable lessons.

In Part 1 last week, I spoke about my father being hospitalised for pneumonia in January and then wrestling with a thief the following month and in both cases, God’s presence was evident. If not for His hand of protection, things could easily have gone south for us.

My father would likely have had lost his life. At his old age and with serious medical complications, pneumonia could easily kill. And with the physical fighting with the thief, had he brought a knife along, I might not have been able to write these articles for you to read.

This week, we look at the months of March and early April.

There has never been any year where our family had sustained the worst wave of challenges within a little more than the first quarter. From January to April, we were inundated with one problem after another much like struggling to sail over the roughest seas one can imagine.

Tumbling from one to the next, our resilience was tested, our patience worn as thin as it could and our self-belief took a walloping that could have knocked all of us cold. Now that we’re have cleared a very tough April, we really don’t know what else would be in store for us.

Never too busy for them
Although in my semi-retirement my routines are not so stringent anymore, I still have a schedule to follow. I don’t travel far to work anymore. I don’t work for any mortal boss and I don’t need to face down any threats of retrenchment like I had in my past.
Still I do have a boss that I labour joyously for and that is God and that is why I try very hard to keep up with this website. I understand many readers in more than ninety countries around the world who visit and read and in my gratefulness, I do my best to produce worthy things to read every week.

It’s April 2017. Being the beginning of the fourth month, that’s exactly one-third point into the year and yet our very small family has already its fair share of events to deal with. Life, as they say, is a journey full of events but being confined by limited hands on deck, ours was even more severely impacted in recent times.
Recently I wrote about my father’s time at the ICU. That took place a little more than a month ago. Not long after my dad was discharged, my wife was stricken with dengue fever, a mosquito-borne disease very common in this neck of the woods.
In our neighbourhood, dengue fever has been rife over the last few years. Notwithstanding the frequent torrents of rain, drains have been clogged and fresh puddles of water are constantly formed in and around the gardens, creating opportunities for mosquitoes to breed and lay their eggs. And that likely included the lush garden around our own home.

Rewritten by Khen Lim

Towards the end of the sermon on March 13 2016, Pastor Barnabas asked whether any of us had seen any miracles done to the church. In my heart, I answered yes. Inspired, here are two I’d like to share.

Testimonies Are HIS Stories

"I will proclaim Your Name to my brothers and sisters. I will praise You among Your assembled people." - Psalm 22:22

A testimony is a way of honouring the Lord. We do so by being a witness for Him to others to tell them about His work in our personal lives or in the corporate life of our church, whichever applies.
Psalm 22:22 is one such example in which the Psalmist expresses his promise to tell others of the greatness of the Lord. Often too, he would ask the Lord to deliver him in order that he could be a witness to God’s salvation.

Empowerment through Testimony

Testimonies are far more than just convincing unbelievers

Most of us consider that testimonies are a great way to bring unbelievers to Christ and that is true. But if that’s all there is to testimonies, we’re selling them short because we would be underestimating its power to pin the devil to the wall. Testimonies, as we may not realise, are a hidden potent tool and weapon against evil and sooner we know this, the better equipped we are!
