The time was September 1944. The place was Arnhem, Holland. Allied airborne forces were looking to capture a very important bridge here in what was an error-filled Operation Market Garden. This is the story of a remarkable man, Major Robert Cain (1909-1974) who did the unthinkable in what was the most improbable of escapes, turning it into the unlikeliest of triumphs.

Introduction

On May 9 this year, 3-year-old Zoey Pereira died a suffering death, incinerated in her father’s 2008 Audi A6 car, strapped to a baby seat in Queens, New York City. She was found in the locked car that was set ablaze covered in gasoline. In other words, she was burned alive. She was murdered.

Introduction

Whenever we speak of persecution of Christians, we automatically look toward our fellow Christian brothers and sisters in the Middle East or in many parts of the African sub-continent whose sufferings are well documented for years. To stretch a little further, we’ll have to include Pakistan as well and in recent news, with Xi Jinping installed as China’s new eternal emperor – no term limitations, in other words – Chinese Christians are under a new wave of persecution that is far worse than even the days of Mao.

In a devotional Bible lesson,¹ some kids were asked why God blesses those who are meek and we have some very interesting answers that are worth sharing here.

Six-year-old T.J. puts it nicely, “If you are really good and you don’t brag, you will get better stuff.”

Taylor who is four years older, says, “Meek means to be disappointed,” but he continues, “A good example is when you get to a championship game and lose. That’s when you are meek.” It’s easy to see how so many people confuse the word ‘meek’ with something else but we’ll get to that later.

Taylor’s peer, Sarah says, “Happy are those who are humble before God. The meek think of God more than they think of themselves.” Bingo.
