Our faith is not hinged on the actual date of Christ's birth but on His historicity

It’s that time of the year again when we put up Christmas
decorations in church and at home, in celebration of the birthday of our Lord
Jesus Christ. But not all Christians celebrate Christmas because of its alleged
pagan background. I’d say that you’re no better Christian just because you
celebrate Christmas and vice-versa.
Besides, the Bible does not even reveal the actual date on which
Jesus was born. In other words, a celebration as such can be deemed
unnecessary. It wouldn’t be remiss at all then to say that the date is not
essential to our faith but the fact remains that, Christmas itself is. Our
Christian faith is not based on knowing the exact date of the birth of Christ
but on the other hand, it is based on the historicity of His birth. That’s
because Christianity itself has a historical basis. If Christmas has no
history, then the Christian faith is history!
We should also remind ourselves that nowhere in Scripture does
it say that we must celebrate the birth of Christ. However we do it
because Jesus entered human history when He humbled Himself, took on human form
and became one of us. And the Word became flesh and lived among us (Jn
1:14). This is a historical fact and by the fact that this took place more than
2,000 years ago, we therefore celebrate Christmas.
Last but not least, I take this opportunity to wish all
Hosanna EFC members and our readers worldwide a blessed and meaningful
Christmas and a Happy New Year 2016.
God bless you.
